{"id":635156,"date":"2020-05-12T10:51:13","date_gmt":"2020-05-12T10:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/realt.ro\/?p=635156"},"modified":"2020-11-13T11:17:33","modified_gmt":"2020-11-13T11:17:33","slug":"dorobanti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/realt.ro\/en\/dorobanti\/","title":{"rendered":"Dorobanti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dorobanti Path is one of the oldest streets in Bucharest.\u00a0The area around the street was designed and built from the beginning to form an exclusive neighborhood.\u00a0The name of the street was given in 1878\u00a0by a Royal Decree\u00a0in memory of the Dorobanti troops who fought in Plevna, Vidin and Grivita of the Romanian War of Independence.<\/p>\n<p>Dorobanti neighborhood\u00a0is limited to the south by the Romana Square, to the southeast by Mihai Eminescu Street, to the east by Polona Street and Floreasca neighborhood, to the northeast by Primaverii neighborhood, to the north by Herastrau Park, to the west by the Aviatorilor Boulevard and Victoriei Square and to the southwest by Lascar Catargiu Boulevard.<\/p>\n<p>The division of the street into three sections has historical roots.\u00a0The section between Piata Lahovarii and the intersection between Soseaua Stefan cel Mare and Iancu de Hunedoara\u00a0is dotted with old constructions, most of them built at the end of the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century and the beginning of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century.\u00a0The buildings were built on considerable land belonging to important families in Bucharest at that time.\u00a0Currently, they host various institutions or diplomatic missions \/ residences.\u00a0The blocks that are found in the needles\u00a0of this\u00a0area have been built\u00a0since the interwar period.<\/p>\n<p>The second section of the street\u00a0is rendered by the area between Dorobanti Square and the\u00a0intersection between Soseaua Stefan cel Mare and Iancu de Hunedoara.\u00a0The specific architecture is abundantly influenced by communist features, being\u00a0systematically developed after the 1960s. Subsequently, many of the\u00a0buildings were demolished to make way for the current ten-storey &#8220;towers&#8221;.\u00a0Some constructions older than 1940\u00a0have been saved and we can still see them today.<\/p>\n<p>The third and last east section\u00a0is represented by the area between Dorobanti Square and Charles de Gaulle Square.\u00a0The area was parceled in the interwar period and includes buildings built\u00a0after 1940.\u00a0Thus, its beauty generates\u00a0the\u00a0most <a href=\"https:\/\/realt.ro\/en\/search\/?search=dorobanti\">popular<\/a>\u00a0areas in terms of real estate in Bucharest.\u00a0Here can also be found the\u00a0headquarters of the Romanian Television.\u00a0The division was considerably modified after 1990, due to adoption of the restitution law\u00a0which left room to the construction contractors to build <a href=\"https:\/\/ro.pinterest.com\/REALT2020\/\">imposing buildings<\/a> without\u00a0meeting specific architectural lines\u00a0drawn by renowned architects such as\u00a0Albert Galeron Paul Gottereau Louis Blanc\u00a0and\u00a0S. Mayer.<\/p>\n<p>Over time, the inhabitants of Dorobanti Path\u00a0have been characterized by a diversity specific to their historic times.\u00a0Thus, we find out that Ion Lahovarii, former\u00a0minister of foreign affairs\u00a0(1899-1900)\u00a0and minister\u00a0of agriculture\u00a0(1904-1907; 1910-1912),\u00a0was a neighbor of Adam Gall and G. Ferent coachmen.\u00a0The Bucharest Yearbook of 1911 records that the Serbian Legation\u00a0used the\u00a0same building for\u00a0almost\u00a0100 years.\u00a0Historical personalities\u00a0such as Petre Carp, Dinu I. C. Bratianu, Ioan Slavici\u00a0or\u00a0V. A. Macedonski\u00a0had their residence in Dorobanti District.<\/p>\n<p>The SOCEC yearbook of Greater Romania accurately reproduces the daily reality of the configuration of the\u00a0tenants on Dorobanti Path.\u00a0In this context,\u00a0we can find out that\u00a0there were eight grocers on the\u00a0street, two barbers\u00a0(G. Alexandrescu and Ioan Ionescu), a confectioner\u00a0(D. Dumitrescu)\u00a0and M. Trandafirescu&#8217;s pharmacy.
